About vac

The Virginia Asthma Coalition was created through collaboration between the Virginia Department of Health and the American Lung Association of Virginia and the Virginia Department of Education. The VAC provides a forum for people to exchange ideas on ways to improve the quality of asthma care in Virginia. VAC members include: physicians, nurses, parents, health providers, governmental agencies, respiratory therapists and others who are concerned about controlling asthma throughout Virginia. |

| Goals |
| |
- Provide education about asthma and asthma management to persons with asthma and their caregivers; to public health advocates, school personnel, policy makers and childcare providers.
- Increase awareness of environmental asthma triggers, and advocate for clean indoor air.
- Provide education to health care providers to ensure they are knowledgable about scientific advances and guidelinces for the treatment and mangement of astham.
- Ensure surveillance and analysis of available data on the prevalance, incidence, morbidity and mortality of asthma to demonstrate the burden of asthma in Virginia and generate policy change.
- Provide leadership to local asthma coalitions to coordinate activities and provide linkages among community-based, state and federal asthma initiatives.
